Portals and Collaboration Partner Community Newsgroup




Join Microsoft product teams, field teams, and other partners in this new pilot newsgroup to learn about the business opportunity for portal and collaboration software — focusing primarily on Windows SharePoint Services, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server, and Groove technologies. Together, portal and collaboration software provide your customers full access to the people and information they need to effectively communicate, make more-informed decisions and work productively.

Share Experience: Join the Portals and Collaboration Newsgroup Community

This newsgroup can help you:

  • Learn about the business opportunity surrounding Microsoft portal and collaboration software.
  • Post questions and get answers regarding how to identify customers who would benefit from portal and collaboration software, and how to get customers to use the software.
  • Learn about best practices and resources from your peers.

To join and participate in the Portals and Collaboration Newsgroup community, complete the registration process. After you register, you can create or update your profile and access the newsgroup.

Registering with the Newsgroup

Go to the Portals and Collaboration Newsgroup Web interface.

  1. Click Sign In. At the prompt for a secure code, a site authorization window will open. Enter collab07 in the text field provided, and then click Next.
  2. Click the link to set up your individual Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) user account.
    1. To read the newsgroup in a Web browser, click Cancel to skip this step.
    2. If you already have an individual NNTP user account, click Finish, and you will be taken directly to the Portals and Collaboration Newsgroup site.
    3. If you do not have an individual NNTP user account, you can create one to access the newsgroups through newsreader clients such as Outlook Express.
  3. In the NTTP Account Setup window:
    1. Type PrivateNews\<UserName> as the full NNTP user name. The UserName is the one created on the above window.
    2. Your NNTP user account will be valid until July each year, after which you’ll need to repeat the registration process to re-enable NNTP access.
  4. Close the NNTP Account Setup window. You should receive the message "Successfully Added!"
  5. Click Finish, and the requested site will load.

On your next visit to the Portals and Collaboration Newsgroup Web interface, you will not be prompted for the secure code.
