Microsoft NorCal Partners:

I want to take a moment to thank you for your Microsoft partnership.  As you know, we just closed our fiscal year ’07 and it has been a fantastic year for Microsoft.  From speaking to many of you, our partners have seen a healthy business growth as well.  NorCal SMS&P sales results were very strong and we ended the year #1 for sales attainment results.  NorCal SMS&P achieved the highest year over year growth in the US for new Windows Server units and new Dynamics ERP customer adds.  NorCal also had the highest sales attainment for our IW solutions and also had very strong development tools growth.  NorCal SMS&P has also seen a strong Enterprise Agreement renewal commitment from customers, and a strong growth of customers moving from Open and Select agreements to Enterprise Agreements, demonstrating a long term commitment to the Microsoft platform.  All of this translates into a great opportunity for our partners to engage with customers to build and deploy solutions on the Microsoft platform investment they have made.  Thank you for all your support to close a very strong year in NorCal and move into our next fiscal year with a healthy pipeline of business.

As you may have heard from recent announcements, Microsoft SMS&P is making some changes as we move into our next fiscal year.  In the West Region, we are consolidating sales areas and NorCal and PacWest will be merged into one area called NorthWest which will be led by Jane Dickson (previously the GM of PacWest SMS&P).  You may have met Jane at Worldwide Partner Conference this month, and if not I’m sure you’ll have the opportunity to meet with her very soon.  Jane has a strong track record for sales attainment and partner satisfaction and I’m sure you’ll enjoy working with her.  You will continue to work with the same NorCal team including our Sales Managers – Stewart McDougall, Lauren Salita and Mike McGuinness and their teams, and your Partner Community Manager Suzanne Lavine.

I will be moving into a new role within Microsoft starting August 1st as Worldwide General Manager for SMSG Field Readiness.  In my new role I will be responsible for leading a global team to deliver training worldwide to our SMSG (sales, marketing and services group) field organization, partnering with Microsoft’s Executive field, segment and business group leadership on understanding the business strategies and ensuring alignment of the readiness strategy to our field leadership’s short- and long-term business goals.   Microsoft is making a strong commitment to invest in our people for continued skills and career development and I’m excited to be part of making that happen.  I also look forward to expanding my leadership opportunities to a worldwide level.

Although my new role will be less partner facing, I hope to maintain strong connections with all of you.  It’s important to hear your feedback on how our field can improve in serving our customers and partners and how we can ensure the readiness programs for our  employees to make a strong impact in working with you and your customers.  I have enjoyed working with you over the years and I hope you know that I will continue to support you in any way that I can.   I will continue to work out of the San Francisco field office so please stay in touch!

Thanks, again, for your partnership and I wish you much success!

User Group Meeting .NET Dev

The next meeting of the BAADD San Francisco .NET Developer’s User Group will be Wednesday, July 25, 2007 from 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the Microsoft Office, One Market Street, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, CA.

Food will arrive at 6:30, and the meeting will get underway formally at 7:00.  If you arrive after 7:00, you will need to have the security guard call me to bring you up.

This month Barton Friedland will present on Windows Workflow Foundation + .Windows Sharepoint Services

Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), a key component of .NET 3.0, provides a rich set of services to build next-generation applications that manage both human computer-based workflows. Barton will provide an overview of the WF object model, including the Workflow Runtime and the extensible services it provides. Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 (WSS 3.0) is a separate product from Microsoft that also hosts WF technology. Barton will elaborate on the manner in which WF has been tuned for the WSS 3.0 environment and go into detail as to how stand-alone WF can be used in tandem with WF hosted within WSS 3.0 to compose sophisticated workflow applications.

Barton Friedland, Luminous Group

Barton Friedland is a Managing Partner of Luminous Group, a bay area technology consultancy focusing on alignment of business strategy with technology choices. A veteran of both Apple and NeXT, Barton has worked with and implemented leading edge technologies for over 20 years for companies such as American Express, JP Morgan, Elite Model Management, and Stüssy. From 2003-2006 he held the position of Director of Engineering for Spoken Translation. He holds a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Computer Science from Mills College. Please RSVP to Don Robins at dbr@outformations.com by noon on Wednesday, July 25th, so we can make sure we have enough food and drinks on hand, and so building security knows you are coming.  I hope you will be able to attend.
