Windows Vista Hardware Assessment 2 Release

Microsoft Solution Accelerators Team is pleased to announce the release of the Windows Vista Hardware Assessment 2 (WVHA) at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference on July 10.  This new tool allows partners and corporate customers to quickly inventory their network environment and accelerate the deployments of Windows Vista and 2007 Microsoft Office.

What is WVHA?

WVHA is an agent-less network inventory tool designed to help customers and partners quickly discover and assess the readiness of their workstations and laptops for Windows Vista and 2007 Microsoft Office.  It provides in-depth hardware and device compatibility analysis and actionable upgrade recommendations for each PC discovered on the network for migration to Windows Vista and 2007 Microsoft Office.  Most importantly, this tool does not require any agent software to be deployed on machines inventoried thus alleviating potential customer concerns.

What’s New in WVHA 2?

This new release incorporates feedback from many Microsoft partners, customers and field employees and includes new capabilities including:

·         2007 Microsoft Office hardware assessment

·         Active Directory filtering via organizational units

·         Inventory by network subnet

·         SNMP discovery

·         Import list of computers to analyze from management products or text files

·         Localized  versions available in French, German, Japanese, Korean, LATAM Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese

·         Scalable to environments with up to 25,000 computers

Target Audience

The Windows Vista Hardware Assessment 2 supports both the Enterprise and Midmarket segments.   It enables Microsoft Partners to increase sales opportunities using this Pre-Sales assessment tool for Windows Vista and 2007 Office migration projects.  Using this tool, for example, a Microsoft Partner can offer a quick hardware assessment for a new customer as a way to drive business conversations about desktop deployment.

For Enterprise and Upper Midmarket customers, their IT staff may choose to run this assessment tool themselves, which will help accelerate desktop migration and deployment planning.
