Fantastic 40 – Follow up from LM 8/17/07

Can the “Fantastic 40” be used on Office Live?

Of the three tiers of Office Live: Basic, Essentials, and Premium only Essentials and Premium support SharePoint services. The SharePoint services already have derivatives of several of the Application Templates installed. (I know this is a non-answer to the question, but I’m waiting on an absolute answer from someone on the Live team)

Are the “Fantastic 40” already preinstalled in a demo environment VPC?

Yes. They are part of the MOSS image (version 19a) that is included on Volume 8 of the Technology Demonstration Toolkit in the ActionPack.

I would encourage you to join the SharePoint community in Bay Area SharePoint at http://nbaysps.sharepointsite.com/default.aspx .In the community meetings you get pointers to popular blogs, newsgroups and sites at http://www.microsoft.com/sharepoint/community. There are several Online eLearning "clinics" for developers and IT Professionals.  An online eLearning clinic contains a few hours of content and provides a great technical overview. Best thing: it’s currently free. You can find pointers to all the clinics from https://www.microsoftelearning.com/catalog/itprodev.aspx#officeSystem2007.  Here is the list of classes taken from that link:

Online clinics covering SharePoint technology are free for a limited time!!!

When:  Wednesday, August 22, 6:00PM

This month’s BASBITS (Bay Area Small Business Information Technology Specialists) Users Group Meeting will be on Wednesday, August 22nd at 6pm.

Our Main Program will feature an in-depth discussion of VoIP phone systems from Avaya.  Expect to learn: how they work, what they can tie into, where the technology is today and where it is going tomorrow.

The Short Program will be presented by Alan Helbush and cover the newest release of Microsoft Windows Server Update Services (WSUS).  This valuable tool enables IT administrators to deploy the latest Microsoft product updates to computers running the Windows operating system. By using WSUS, administrators can fully manage the distribution of updates that are released through Microsoft Update to computers in their network.

BASBITS is the Bay Area users group for IT Professionals who add value to small business clients with Microsoft’s Small Business Server.

Our meeting will be in the  California Conference Room at 1798-B Bay Road, East Palo Alto, CA 94303. Pizza and drinks will be there by 5:45pm.  Cost is just $10 at the door.
