From Wahington DC

Here for Microsoft Partner event, 12,500 partners attended. Got to see Bill Clinton keynote!!
Food – wow, ate at several great places, there are three places that stood out.
Zantinya (701 9th Street NW) – Greek, Libanese, Turkish small dishes. If you like tasting a lot of different tastes and don’t mind sharing, this is the place for you! The fish dishes were very authentic, grilled and served whole. For meat lovers, I was told the lamb was fatastic. Of course, I sampled several vegi dishes and each one tasted completely different and delicous.
Jalea (480 7th Street) – Andalusian Tapas – again small dishes, everything was beyond tasty. Sangria was refreshing.
McCormick & Schmick’s – I know this is sort of a chain but their fish is reliably fresh and prepared perfectly. The service is impeccable.
Well, should note one other place – Old Ebbitt Grill. A DC relic, varied menu and wildly popular.
Back to my chatting about GREECE!
Trash – we were really surprised at seeing people throwing trash out of their car windows, or pulling into a supposedly scenic reststop and being surrounded by every conceivable type of trash. We were appalled until we went on a hike recently in the backwoods of Applegate Lake and passed an area where several people had dumped their trash. I guess there are disrespectful people everywhere.
Smoking – no surpise, just like anywhere in Europe!
Worry Beads – Don’t know if you’ve seen these in use before. Usually see older men in shops, walking along streets, sitting a sidewalk cafes thumbing through their beads.
Style – Greek women are stylin’!! Whereas we’ve seen women wearing new styles everywhere, the Greek women wear the newest styles "with style". Although, like in other southern countries, the older women wear black. Doesn’t matter how hot it is, they wear black!
