Save the Date for 2012 Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, July 8-12

Dear Partners!

I’d like to invite you to 2012 Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference (WPC) taking place this year July 8-12 in Toronto, Canada! Each year, WPC brings together Microsoft partners from all over the world with Microsoft executives and team members in a forum for mutual learning, networking, and celebration. It’s a place for you to get the information you need to plan future business opportunities, learn about Microsoft’s vision for new products and technologies, and understand the value of your membership in the Microsoft Partner Network. You can add the Conference dates to your Outlook calendar by opening the attached invitation.

This year, we’ll be in beautiful Toronto. Jemima Herman, who is the U.S. planning lead for WPC 2012, is sharing event and planning updates on the U.S. Partner Team blog. Her post about the planning team’s site visit to Toronto in November was inspiring – everyone loved the city and its venues. You can read Jemima’s WPC 2012 blog series at

As WPC is taking place in Canada this year, there are important international travel details U.S. attendees should be aware of. For example, U.S. citizens are required to present a valid U.S. passport to enter or re-enter the United States via air. Visit the U.S. Department of State website for more details on traveling to Canada.

What’s happening in February?

· The annual U.S. WPC survey is now available, and is your opportunity to give feedback that helps our planning. Complete the survey for a chance to win an Xbox with Kinect bundle (sweepstakes ends 2/29/2012; Official Rules). The WPC Awards submission tool will open in February, so start planning to submit your company’s solution for an award. Details will be published on

I highly encourage you to consider attending the Worldwide Partner Conference this year. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I’m happy to continue this conversation and discuss why I think WPC will be so valuable to your business.

Make Calls That Make a Different

If you are having trouble viewing this email, please view the online version.

We want to help make a difference in your renewal efforts. Recently, we notified our mutual customers that their Microsoft Open License, Open Value, or Open Value Subscription agreements are expiring within the next 90 days. Our intent is both to inform customers of the status of their agreements and to support you in your efforts to renew these agreements.
This is a prime opportunity to grow your business. Recapture and gain incremental revenue by renewing your customers’ expiring Software Assurance coverage for their Volume License agreements.
1. Request your renewals workbook. We’ve created a renewals workbook for your company in a simple-to-use Microsoft Excel file that identifies which of your customer agreements are due to expire, and when.
<img width="225" height="29" src="cid:image011.jpg
2. Visit the SMB Open Renewals Center. This site is full of tools to help you sell Open License renewals effectively, including on-demand training, sales cards, templates, and presentations.
Renewal conversations are an excellent opportunity to highlight the services and cost advantages your customers will lose if their licenses expire. Start planning 90 days before expiration and make sure you:
1. Prepare your conversations and proposals before your agreements expire.
2. Know the value of renewing.
a. Anticipate customer concerns and prepare Software Assurance benefit sales strategies. Access key resources.
b. Initiate Software Asset Management conversations to help create opportunities for additional solutions and services. Learn more.
3. Show your customers ways to tailor licensing agreements to fit their unique growth plans, cash flow, and desired levels of support.
Sincerely yours,
U.S. Microsoft SMB Volume Licensing Renewal Team
